Owner Surrender - Transylvania County Animal Shelter, Brevard NC (Asheville area)

Big BoyThis bundle of love needs a hero...fast!  Big Boy is what the shelter thinks may be an American Bull Dog /Hound mix who was loved and well cared for by his owner. Sadly, his owner has been hospitalized with health issues and can no longer care for his four-legged friend. Now, through no fault of his own, Big Boy is alone and wondering why his world has suddenly been turned upside down.

To make matters worse, since he was surrendered by his owner, Big Boy does not get the usual 5-day pass and can be euthanized at any time.

The shelter workers report that he is a warm, cuddly dog with a friendly personality, despite his sad surroundings.

He is about 60 lbs and about 25 inches tall at the shoulder.

He has been neutered and is up to date on all his immunizations.

Big Boy needs your help. He just wants to be with people again.

Welcome Ace to the Clay Team

A week ago, I learned about 5 dogs that were due to be put down at our local animal shelter. It's a very old, cramped space and when they run out of cages, dogs that can't be rescued or adopted are put down for the sole purpose of freeing up space for other dogs.

Among that group was a young Lab mix that they were calling Harold. We have an affinity for Labs so we knew we couldn't let him be one of those poor dogs that would be put down. So Wednesday, we went to the shelter and rescued him. At that point, our intent was to simply save his life while we looked for a rescue or forever home. It didn't take long to bond with this wonderful guy.

He's thin for his size and has been making up for lost time, eating like a small horse. But his gentle nature, loving personality, and over all demeanor makes him a joy to have in our home.

By Friday, we decided to give him his forever home with us. Earlier that day, someone had called in, thinking that Harold might be the dog he had lost a month ago in the same area that Harold had been found...and our heart sank. But after exchanging pictures, he called back to say that it wasn't his dog. We were sad for him because when you love a dog, it's so hard when you lose them...by whatever means.  But, we were relieved that we could officially make Harold our own.

We had already decided to rename him Ace. Our other passion is tennis so Ace seemed appropriate because he's a winner!

If you are considering adding a dog to your family pack, I hope you will consider contacting a local rescue group, SPCA, Humane Society, or your local shelter. You never know who you'll find waiting for you.

Husky Needs Your Help

This handsome boy is currently being fostered but is in need of a rescue group, a more long term foster family, or better yet...a permanent home. He had been wandering the Rich Mt and Cedar Mt area (near Brevard, NC) for months.  He's a happy guy...a little thin..but that's easily fixed. We don't know a lot about him except that he isn't neutered...but please share this info with anyone you know. Especially any one who is connected with a Husky rescue group.

Thanks for your help!

Emergency Dog Rescue - Brevard, NC (near Asheville and Hendersonville) - UPDATED

UPDATE - 12/11

GREAT NEWS!  George and Gustav were reunited with their owners today, Giovanni and Biskit are in foster or rescue. The only one left is litte Gilligan. We think we have a rescue group in DC who can take him in January so we'll be looking for a foster home to look after him until then. I'm thinking that foster home may be us!

Thanks for everyone's comments, reblogging, and support!

November Market Report - Home Sales in Brevard, NC

Here in the mountains of western North Carolina the “buying season” for 2009, which starts around March every year, is now winding down. And as the year also comes to an end, it’s safe to say that our usual pattern of buying and selling has remained the same compared to years past, there’s just less of it going on.

In November, there were 21 residential closings in Transylvania County compared to 27 closings in October.  The average listing price for the month was $594,283 and the average selling price was $539,929, or roughly 91% of asking. Overall, those numbers are significantly higher than October because of the number of homes in the $500+ range that closed this month. There were six properties closed at over $500K and of those, 4 were well over $1M.
