Brevard NC Restaurant Review

One of the Clay Team's favorite places to eat in Brevard, NC is The Square Root. It's located in the alley between Main Street and Jordan Street making it a perfect place to pop into for lunch or dinner. The atmosphere is relaxed and the food is totally delicious. Square Root

The historic building was once the home of the Transylvania Times newspaper and has been restored with a great touch that exudes a combination of art gallery-loft-restaurant. When you walk in, you'll immediately notice the floor. It is a hand-laid, hand-cut wood parquet floor. Each of the wood tiles were hand cut from local timber. The antique brick walls not only add a warm funky texture, they're a great back drop for the perfectly lit local art work that hangs on them. Much of the art work you see is for purchase. Another example of the spectacular design features is The Square Root bar top. It is a crafted slice of a Maple tree that fell in town several years ago with interesting grains, knots, and twists.

But hey, it's the food that'll keep you coming back again and again. For lunch, the salads are all outstanding. My favorite sandwich has to be the roasted turkey. It's real turkey...not that slimy deli stuff..and it is served high on marble bread with bacon, avacado mayo, and slices of fried japelnos. (Extra jalepenos for me please). It's a big sandwich but it also comes with a side. I like the fresh veggies or my secret indulgence...the sweet potato chips. Vegetarians will find plenty to choose from at The Square Root with the yummy black bean burger, portabella wrap, or brie and apple sandwich.

When you come for dinner, you have to try the pecan encrusted brie appetizer. It is served with granny smith apples and a Francelico Praline Sauce. It's big enough to share, but you may not want to...it's that good. They also have the southern staple, Fried Green Tomatoes as well as Cajun shrimp and grits, and mussels. On the dinner menu, you can't go wrong with the simplicity of the Meat Loaf, Curried Meat balls, local Mountain Trout, or really anything you find on the menu. I can honestly say I've never had a bad meal at Square Root and always recommend it to anyone who is new to the area.

On Sunday, stop in for their very popular Sunday Brunch served from 11 - 2.  Eat inside or enjoy the great mountain weather along with your great meal on the patio.
