February is Spay/Neuter Month

animal rescueOne of the most effective ways to stem the tide of unwanted animals in any community is through a spay/neuter program. In Hendersonville, NC, Henderson County residents who want to have their pets "fixed" have the chance to get the best deal ever by purchasing a spay/neuter voucher for only $10 for Cats and $15 for dogs...and this price includes a free rabies vaccination!  Vouchers are redeemed at the Asheville Humane Alliance Spay/Neuter Clinic.

To purchase a voucher, call the Community Partnership for Pets at 828-693-5172, or email cpforpetsinc@aol.com. You can also purchase vouchers at the Blue Ridge Mall on Four Seasons Blvd. on Saturday February 5-6, and February 19 from 12-3pm, or at the Tractor Supply on Four Seasons Blvd on Saturday, February 26 from 10 am - 2 pm.

Why Spay and Neuter?
The surplus of dogs and cats in the US is in the millions. There will never be enough rescue groups or adoptions available to insure homes for every one of these abandoned animals. An aggressive spay/neuter program is proven to be successful in reducing the number of stray animals.

There are also health benefits for your pet. Sterilization of your cat or dog increases his/her chance of a longer and healthier life. Altering your dog will add an average of 1 to 3 years to his life, cats an average of 3 to 5 years. Altered animals have a very low to no risk of mammary gland tumors/cancer, prostate cancer, perianal tumors, uterine, ovarian and testicular cancers.

Sterilization (altering) your cat/dog also makes him/her a better pet by reducing the urge to roam and decreasing the risk of contracting diseases or getting hurt as they roam.
