Welcome Ace to the Clay Team

A week ago, I learned about 5 dogs that were due to be put down at our local animal shelter. It's a very old, cramped space and when they run out of cages, dogs that can't be rescued or adopted are put down for the sole purpose of freeing up space for other dogs.

Among that group was a young Lab mix that they were calling Harold. We have an affinity for Labs so we knew we couldn't let him be one of those poor dogs that would be put down. So Wednesday, we went to the shelter and rescued him. At that point, our intent was to simply save his life while we looked for a rescue or forever home. It didn't take long to bond with this wonderful guy.

He's thin for his size and has been making up for lost time, eating like a small horse. But his gentle nature, loving personality, and over all demeanor makes him a joy to have in our home.

By Friday, we decided to give him his forever home with us. Earlier that day, someone had called in, thinking that Harold might be the dog he had lost a month ago in the same area that Harold had been found...and our heart sank. But after exchanging pictures, he called back to say that it wasn't his dog. We were sad for him because when you love a dog, it's so hard when you lose them...by whatever means.  But, we were relieved that we could officially make Harold our own.

We had already decided to rename him Ace. Our other passion is tennis so Ace seemed appropriate because he's a winner!

If you are considering adding a dog to your family pack, I hope you will consider contacting a local rescue group, SPCA, Humane Society, or your local shelter. You never know who you'll find waiting for you.

How absolutely sweet. I lost my golden back in August and when it comes time to bring another 'love' into my life I will surely rescue a special 'Ace" from the SPCA. Merry Christmas!!

We lost our chocolate Lab almost a year ago....and as much as I enjoyed the freedom of coming and going, the house never feels right without a dog. Afterall...we're all pack animals!

Merry Christmas to you as well Martha.
