Early Mountain Snow

The mountains of western North Carolina are especially spectacular this time of year. If you ask me, Fall is the best time of year. We usually start looking forward to leaf season around July. This year's Fall has been exceptional. Mother nature has treated us to another incredible display of color. Every bend in the road seems to be more beautiful than the last.morning snow

One thing we normally don't expect this time of year, however, is snow. But this morning we woke up to a dusting of the white stuff and flurries continued until mid morning when the sun began to have its way. Aside from the fact that it messed up my plans to play a bit of tennis this morning (inside courts are a wonderful thing!), the weather has heightened my natural affinity for hand made quilts, cuddly sweaters, and chili in front of a roaring fire.

We have friends who live here only part of the year and they have already gone back to their winter home in Florida where the temperatures are more to their liking. He starts to shiver when the temperatures drop below 80.  For me, though, I can't think any place I'd rather be than right here in the mountains around Brevard, North Carolina.

Carol & Robert, I think snow is good when you visit for a few days. Living  on the east coast for many years, I am nostalgic about the snow for a few moments, then I remeber about showeling it, driving in it and freezing in it. We live in the Marina and complain how cold it is at night when it goes into the low to mid 60s:)))

Endre - the great thing about our area is that it snows just enough to make it interesting. The kids get out of school for a day now and then..there's enough to make snowmen and some snow ice cream...and enough to make everything look like a sugar coated wonderland. Then, it wil warm up a bit. Roads are rarely a problem because of snow. Ice, yea, but not snow.

On the other hand, I can't believe people can actually live and function in places like Minnesota. Naw...western North Carolina has wonderful winters. It's going to be 70 tomorrow! Go figure.
